Powder coating is a type of dry coating, which is applied as a free-flowing, dry powder. The main difference between a conventional liquid paint and a powder coating is that the powder coating does not require a solvent to keep the binder and filler parts in a liquid suspension form. The coating is applied electrostatically and is then cured under heat to allow the powder to harden and create the compact surface protective layer. There are several advantages of powder coating over conventional liquid coatings:
• Except the decorative function of Powder coating, especially on Carbon steel zinc plated surfaces, Powder coating remarkably improves the corrosion resistance.
• Powder coatings can produce much thicker coatings than conventional liquid coatings without running or sagging.
• After hardening the coating layer excellently fulfils the requirements on Color lasting, Gloss stability, UV resistance as well as Abrasion and Impact resistance.
• After oven hardening, the coating stays flexible and absorbs even remarkable expansion of the supporting surface as well as its bending or twisting.
• Powder coated items generally have fewer appearance differences between horizontally coated surfaces and vertically coated surfaces than liquid coated items.
• Powder coating overspray can be recycled and thus it is possible to achieve nearly 100% use of the coating.
Aztec International S.A. is today known as one of the best fastener powder coating companies in Europe. Aztec group is benefiting from its over 18 years experience with powder coating. Aztec Nordic Ltd. as the machinery and R&D subsidiary, assures continuous development of powder coating technology and its application as well as the production of the fully automated high speed performance Master Coat® machines.
Aztec’s innovative production facility, R&D program based on own know-how, together with precise internal Quality Control, allow to provide its customers with highest achievable quality of painting service in standard or special color shades. Flexibility of services, guaranteed properties of panting and short delivery times is the added value to Aztec’s standards.
Quick and simple testing met hod to chec k the qualit y of the applied coating Bending the painted washer reveals defects in the compactness and flexibility of the powder coating layer under pressure. Standard pliers are used to bend the washer. When bent no visible crack should appear on the edge of the bending.(Modified bending test DIN EN ISO 1590)
